The World’s First Offices With a Lifi Internet Connection System Are in Paris

The Dutch at Philips have found an alternative to the WiFi system and provides for the first-time internet in the LiFi system, from the bright LEDs, inside the offices of the French company Icade, in Paris. Special LEDs illuminate office spaces and, at the same time, send and receive data faster than the WiFi system, without affecting the light intensity in the office. 

The LiFi (Light Fidelity) system provides an Internet connection, using light radiation from some intelligent LED luminaires, for all office devices: phones, laptops, printers, etc.

To receive the internet in the LiFi system, mobile phones, laptops, and printers must be equipped with a special adapter.

Office lighting devices Philips Lighting with LiFi technology, provides a broadband internet connection with a speed of 30 Mb per second (Mb / s), according to a Philips press release.

LiFi technology has a higher internet speed than the classic WiFi system. Still, the signal does not pass through the walls, the internet being provided only in open spaces, where there are luminaires equipped with this Philips system.

The LiFi signal does not pass through the walls. It can also be considered an advantage because it ensures maximum security and is useful for institutions and companies that need more excellent data protection, such as financial or government institutions.

LiFi is a two-way wireless technology, high speed, like WiFi technology, but using light waves instead of radio waves to transmit data, according to a company statement.

The new smart office building where LiFi technology is tested occupied by the employees of the investment company Icade is in the La Defense business district of Paris, France.

Smart office buildings are in the spotlight of big companies, who want to offer as many facilities as possible to employees, provide them with a healthy workplace, and minimize energy consumption.

In Romania, we do not yet have offices equipped with LiFi technology. Still, most class A office buildings, delivered in Bucharest, Timisoara, and Cluj-Napoca, have intelligent LED lighting systems, according to ESOP monitoring, and could soon follow the French example.
