What Works Will Be Executed at Fabrica De Glucoza Road and What Impact Will They Have

Fabrica de Glucoza, from the North of the Capital, will be widened to four bands, wide-sidewalks, bike paths, connected to the A3 highway, and the intersection with Barbu-Văcărescu will be reconfigured, to streamline traffic in the area. 

These infrastructure works will increase access to offices in the Pipera, Dimitrie Pompeiu, Petricani areas and will reduce traffic at the Barbu Văcărescu- Fabrica de Glucoză intersection area.

Bucharest City Hall has handed over the site to the builder, and this fall, it will open the construction site.

General Mayor Gabriela Firea estimates that the project could be ready in a year, a maximum of a year and a half:

“The works start immediately after the demolition is completed, with an estimated completion time of three weeks. The execution period is 15 months; however, the possibility of reducing this term to 12 months is discussed with the executor”.

Specifically, the works that will be executed within this project, according to the PMB press release, are:

  • widening Fabrica de Glucoza Road to four lanes of 1,8 km section, two lanes of 3.5 meters each,
  • bicycle tracks,
  • construction of sidewalks with a width of 4,5m.
  • reconfiguring the intersections that the Fabrica de Glucoza Road crosses
  • connection to the future roundabout of the A3 Bucharest-Ploiești-Brașov highway
  • redevelopment of green spaces
  • modernization of street lighting,
  • bus station shelters,
  • arrangement of parking lots and traffic lights on certain segments.

In the northern part of the Capital, the last major infrastructure work was the Pipera Passage, put into use in 2012. It connects the Pipera and Aviatiei areas, with an essential junction at the intersection with Barbu-Văcărescu Boulevard.

After the inauguration of the passage, the construction of offices and commercial spaces in the area has exploded. In 2013, Promenada Mall opened, and from 2012 until now, they have been delivered in the area new office buildings totaling a stock of over 400.000 sqm of modern space.
