When to Install Fire Hydrants in an Office Building or Warehouse

From November 15, 2018, a new regulation came into force regarding the technical equipment of buildings with fire hydrants, according to Order no. 6026/2018 for the amendment and completion of the technical regulation “Normative regarding the fire safety of constructions, Part II Extinguishing Installations.”

From this month, in the ISU projects, it is mandatory to equip with hydrants the civil buildings that have an area of ​​more than 600 sqm and a high or very high risk of fire, as well as closed buildings from categories of exceptional importance A or special B, tall or very tall buildings and buildings with crowded halls, spaces where more than 200 people are simultaneous.

Technical equipment with fire hydrants is mandatory for halls, warehouses and production areas with an area of ​​more than 600 square meters (including common traffic) and high or very high risk of fire.

To be equipped with interior fire hydrants, for buildings with mixed functions, the civil or production, and storage function is established.

For buildings where sports activities occur, fire hydrants are needed if there are more than 200 people in those spaces simultaneously.

Also, fire hydrants need underground spaces with an area of ​​more than 300 square meters, closed above-ground parking lots with more than 10 parking spaces and over two levels, open above-ground parking lots with over 50 places and over two levels.

For the first time, the new legislative text allows remote electric actuation for starting pumps and operating taps.

In addition to these provisions, according to Order no. 6026/2018 for amending and supplementing the technical regulation “Normative on the fire safety of buildings, Part II Extinguishing Installations,” there are also rules for hydrants in ISU projects for schools, educational and cultural institutions, commercial spaces and administrative institutions.

Also, in Order no. 6026/2018 is also specified the technical equipment of buildings with automatic fire extinguishing installations, sprinkler type.
